Nancy Nu Nguyen
Contour Brows Studio and Academyの創設者であり、美容業界で20年以上の経験をもつ。Savage Beauty Competitionにて、リップブラッシュとパウダーブロウの部門で優勝し、これまでに数千回もの施術を行ってきた。
自身の甲状腺機能低下症で、眉の脱毛に悩んだ経験が現在のPMUアーティストへの道へ繋がっている。
アートメイクでのキャリアを始めたきっかけとは？
Nancy：13歳のとき、私は甲状腺機能低下症と診断され、2年で眉毛が徐々に抜け落ちました。すぐにペンやパウダーで穴を埋める方法を学び、何年も続けました。22歳までには、均等に描けるようになり、プロと同じくらいの技量まで成長しました。
私の家族が経営するサロンの長いお客様であるテレサから、私の眉が対称で均等に見えると褒められ、どんな眉のステンシルを使っているのか聞かれました。
その後、彼女は私にPMUコースに登録するようすすめたところから歴史が始まりました！
私はPMUと恋に落ち、引き続き学びながら、様々なPMUメンターと同僚に出会っています。
アートメイクを通して、一番印象に残ったエピソードは何ですか？
Nancy：一番記憶に残っている瞬間は、家族が経営するネイルサロンを離れ、2つ目の眉スタジオを開く決断をしたときです。生き残れるかどうかわからなかったし、以前のように閉店してしまう可能性もあったため、非常に怖い決断でした。
最初のスタジオは成功しませんでしたが、正しいトレーニングと素晴らしいメンター、アニタに巡り会いました。彼女は私に「君には素質がある」と言ってくれました。今回ばかりはいけそうな気がしました。
また、素晴らしい男性、私の夫、ミンに出会いました。彼は私を励まし、支え、あらゆる方法で手助けしてくれました。彼には感謝しきれません。
得意分野や、普段の施術で力を入れていることは？
Nancy：私は顔、眉、アイライナー、リップなどのアートメイクが大好きです。あらゆる年齢層に対して柔らかく自然な効果を作り出します。私のクライアントのほとんどは、30代半ば以上の女性で、最年長のクライアントは78歳です。
今、私は学生にキャリアを築き、新しい技術を学ぶことを教えています。私はスキルや専門知識を学生と共有することが私の大きな喜びです。
アートメイクにおいて、一番大切だと思うことは何ですか？
Nancy：アートメイクにおいて、最も大切なのは教育です。最初から正しく学ぶことがベストです。マシン、色彩理論、技術、肌のタイプなど、初心者の段階から着実に基礎を築くことが大切です。
もうひとつは、定期的で継続的なトレーニングを行うことです。毎日30〜60分の練習を欠かさず行うことが重要です。
Nancyさんにとって、アートメイクとは？
Nancy：アートメイクは、女性や男性にとって便利で、防水性や耐汗性があります。毎日のメイクにかかる時間を節約できるだけでなく、何よりも大切なのは、鏡を見たときにより良く、美しく感じることです。彼らの自信を築く手助けができることは、最高の喜びです。
今後の展望をぜひ教えてください！
Nancy：知識とスキルを共有し、生徒が夢を実現する手助けをすることです。
若手アーティストと日本人アーティストへのメッセージ
Nancy：最善のアドバイスは、調査を行い、個別のトレーニングまたは2対1のプログラムに投資することです。取り組む内容によっては、アイブロウ、目、リップを学ぶのに最低でも40時間かかります。トレーナーに質問し、教育を受け続けられているか確認することも大事です。
そして、世界中の異なるアーティストから学び続け、様々なスタイルやテクニックを身につけましょう。幅広いクライアントに対して様々なスタイルを提供できるよう心がけましょう。PMU業界が進化する中で、最新のトレンドに常に先を見ていることも重要です。
Next in PMU：本当にアートメイクは習得するのに時間がとてもかかるので、トレーナーに質問しながら自分で理解を深めていくことが大事だと思います。最近は日本でも活発に海外のPMUマスターを招いた講習が行われています。ぜひ日本のPMUアーティストのみなさんも、学ぶ目的を固め、先生方にどんどん質問して技術を身につけていきましょう！

Nancy Nu Nguyen
Founder of Contour Brows Studio and Academy and with over 20 years of experience in the beauty industry, she won the Savage Beauty Competition in the Lip Blush and Powder Brow categories and has worked on thousands of treatments.
Her own experience with hypothyroidism and brow hair loss led her to her current career as a PMU artist.
Why did you decide to pursue this career?
Nancy：At the age of 13, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. My natural eyebrows slowly fell off over the next 2 years. I quickly learned to fill them in with pencil and powder for years. At the age of 22, I drew them in pretty even. I felt like a pro!
One of my long-time clients, Teresa from my family salon complimented me about how symmetrical and even my brows look. She asked what kind of brow stencils I used. I laughed, and I told her I didn’t. I draw them in every morning. She encouraged me to register for the Permanent Makeup Course. And it was history from there! I fell in love and continue to learn more and meet PMU Mentors and Colleagues.
What is a moment in your Permanent Makeup journey that was most memorable to you?
Nancy：I would say the most memorable moment is when I got the guts to leave my family nail salon to open my 2nd brow studio. It was so scary, to not know if I would survive. Or if I will close like before.
My first studio didn’t make it, but correct training, an amazing mentor, Anita. She told me “ You got what it takes”. I felt good this time.
I also met an amazing man, my husband, Minh. He pushed, encouraged and help me in every way. I can’t thank him enough.
Areas of Expertise
Nancy：I absolutely love to focus permanent makeup on the face, eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips. Creating soft and natural effects for all ages.
Most of my clients are women ages mid 30’s plus, my oldest client is 78 years old.
Now, I have the opportunity to teach others to build a career and learn a new craft. I love to share my knowledge, skills, and expertise with students.
What do you think is the most important aspect in Permanent Makeup? Why?
Nancy：The most important aspect in PMU is Education, learning properly from the start is the best. Start at a beginner level from machine, color theory, techniques and skin type. Another important aspect is to continue practicing.
Continue to Practice daily for 30-60 minutes a day.
What Does Permanent Makeup Mean to You?
Nancy：The best advice is to do your research and invest in a one on one training or 2 on one program. Depending on what you take, you must take at least 40 hrs to learn brows, eyes, and lips.
Ask and interview your trainer and make sure they continue to support you and mentor you.
Future Prospects of your career as a PMU artist and the PMU industry
Nancy：I want to provide the best quality training to my students, share the knowledge that I have learnt through the years and also help artists who still have been struggling to get started in the industry.
Message to Beginner Artists & Japanese PMU Artists
Nancy：The best advice is to do your research and invest in a one on one training or 2 on one program. Depending on what you take, you must take at least 40 hrs to learn brows, eyes, and lips.
Ask and interview your trainer and make sure they continue to support you and mentor you.
Continue to learn from different artists worldwide, you will learn different styles and techniques. Offer different styles for a wide range of clients. Stay ahead of the latest trends, as the PMU industry evolves.
Next in PMU：It really takes a lot of time to learn PMU, so I think it is important to ask questions to the trainer and deepen my understanding of PMU by myself. Recently, many overseas PMU masters have been invited to Japan for training.
Japanese PMU artists should have a purpose to learn and ask questions to the masters to develop your techniques!
