【Artist Interview】Ms. Cat Wei
今日はアメリカからPMUアーティストのCat Weiさんを紹介します。メイクアップが好きであったものの、一度は会社員として働いていたCatさん。しかし眉の講習を受けたことが転機となり、今ではオンブレパウダーブロウに特化したアーティストに！ぜひ彼女の道のりや思いをインタビュー記事でご覧ください。

2019年よりオンブレパウダーブロウに特化し、数日間のトレーニングを受講し、さまざまなアーティストのスタイルを学び、独学でスキルを磨き続ける、学びを止めないPMUアーティスト。
アートメイクでのキャリアを始めたきっかけとは？
Cat：私が最初にこだわったのは眉を整えることでした。大学時代、眉にタトゥーを入れている人はいなかったので、多くの女の子に眉の形を整えてほしいと頼まれました。その後、自分も眉にタトゥーを入れました。それをきっかけに、趣味でアートメイクの眉を作ることができないかと考えるようになりました。大学卒業後、私は9時から5時までの仕事に就いていました。副収入を得るために眉のクラスを受講してアートメイクを始め、やがて私の天職だと気づきました。クライアントが増え始め、自分の情熱を満たし、この業界で成長するために心からこの仕事を追い求める必要があることに気づきました。
Catさんにとって、アートメイクとは？
Cat：PMUに没頭すると時間を忘れてしまうほどです。それは私にとって大きなエネルギー源であり、完璧を目指す力となっています。私はアートメイクが目に見える変革そのものであると信じています。アートメイクは単に人の顔を変え、自分の見方を変えるだけでなく、私のアーティストとしての人生において想像力を解放する手段でもあるのです。この道を通じて私は自分の人生を変え、毎日好きなことを追求し続けることができるようになりました。
得意分野や、普段の施術で力を入れていることは？
Cat：オンブレパウダーブロウと修正を専門としています。私のクライアントは主に女性で、柔らかくはっきりとした美しい眉を希望しています。また、修正も得意としています。古い眉や失敗した眉、色あせた眉を修正し、過去に嫌な経験をした女性でも再び自信を持てるようにサポートしています。
今後の展望
Cat：将来は他のアーティストを指導し、刺激を与えたいと考えています。私のビジネスとチームを拡大したいです。
若手アーティストと日本人アーティストへのメッセージ
Cat：初心者のアーティストへのアドバイス、それはレベルアップする前には常に困難が伴うということです。
物事がより困難になると、次のレベルが提示されることを知ります。これを知っていると自分が正しい道を歩んでいると信じることができるのです。突破するには何度も道を変える必要があるかもしれませんし、過去にうまくいったことが今はうまくいかないかもしれません。次のステップに進むには、まず数歩下がることも必要です。時には、次のステップに進むための基礎が十分でなく、後戻りしてやり直さなければならないことがあります。もし、強度が十分でない土台の上に建物を建てると、後で倒れてしまうのと同じです。
そして、自分の心地良い居場所に閉じこもらないこと。なぜなら、あなたが望んでいること、そしてそれ以上のことは、心地よさの向こう側にあるからです。
最後に、いつか近いうちに日本を訪れたいと思っています！日本のアートそしての文化にわくわくしています。SNSで私とつながってくれるととても嬉しいです！

Today we present Cat Wei, a PMU artist from the United States. Although she loved makeup, she once worked as an office worker. However, taking a brow training course was a turning point and she is now an artist specializing in ombré powder brow! Please take a look at her path and thoughts in the interview article.

Cat Wei
She has been specializing in Ombre Powder Brow since 2019. A handful of 1 or 2 day trainings with different artists to pick up their style otherwise it’s self taught.
Why did you decide to pursue this career?
Cat：My first obsession had always been eyebrows and brow shaping. Back when I was in college, no one had their brows tattooed so I had many girls ask me to shape and draw in their brows. Later on, I had my own eyebrows tattooed. This had me thinking about the possibility of doing PMU brows as a hobby. Fast forward after college I was working an unfulfilling 9-5 job. I decided to take a brow class to start doing PMU brows to bring in some side income. Eventually I realized that PMU brows was my calling. My clientele started to grow, and I knew I needed to pursue this whole heartedly in order for me to fulfill my passion and grow in this industry.
What Does Permanent Makeup Mean to You?
Cat：PMU is my flow state. It is my superpower and an area in my life where I can strive for perfectionism. I see PMU as an embodiment of transformation. Not only does PMU have the ability to change a person’s face and change the way they perceive themselves, PMU is a creative outlet that has changed my life as an artist. I was able to change my life and make it sustainable doing a craft that I love doing everyday.
Areas of Expertise
Cat：I specialize in ombre powder brows and correctional work. My clients are mainly women who wish to have beautiful eyebrows that look soft yet defined. I also specialize in correctional work-fixing old, botched or faded out eyebrows, helping women feel confident again despite the bad experience they may have had in the past.
Future Prospects of your career as a PMU artist and the PMU industry
Cat：My future plans are to continue to educate and inspire other artists. I plan to expand my business and my team.
Message to Young Artists & Japanese PMU Artists
Cat：My advice to any beginner artists and the one thing I continue to take advice of myself is: it is always going to get harder before the level up.
You know you are presented with the next level with things getting harder. Knowing this keeps me in faith that I am on the right track. It may take multiple trails to break through, and what has worked for you in the past may not work for you now. Taking the next step up could also look like taking a few steps down first. Sometimes our foundations are not strong enough to get to the next step and we have to backtrack and redo the steps in order to build on top of it. If we build on top of a foundation that is not strong enough, it will later topple. Choose not to be confined in the walls of our own comfort zone because everything you dream of wanting and more is just on the other side of comfort.

NP：You are so right, and now that I think about it, I remember that the difficulties I ran into in the past appeared before I could level up.
